US is losing war for South America to Hugo Chavez of all people. With most attention focused in the Middle East most forgot about the existence of the whole continent in our backyard which was previously well under US control.
Few years ago in CIA operated coup Chavez was ALMOST removed from power in Venezuela. He was underestimated by his opponents when he was “given up for dead”, he managed to get back into power anyway. Ever since then he is at war with US. Mostly ignored and ridiculed by US media. To an average American pre-occupied with score of some latest game and latest celebrity scandal he is nothing but a dictator of some hole in South America which few can even find on the map.
In the mean time Hugo have been scoring one victory in the war against US after another. Backed by his control over Venezuela’s oil wealth he invested in several presidential campaigns of very leftist candidates all over South and Central America. Few days ago I overheard somebody on the radio saying that Chavez installed seven leftist presidents in South America. Wow! Seven!? I did not know that. I only knew of two – Bolivia and Nicaragua since I did not pay all that much attention to that region. If that is the case it means that pesky little Chavez became serious headache in Washington’s South American politics. The latest Chavez vs US showdown is taking place in Honduras right now. Chavez owned Presidente ousted by pro-US faction just does not want to give up! Backed by other South American allies of Chavez he wants his power back!
In addition to all those problems Chavez is urging Arabs to create petro-currency undermining US$, kicking US oil companies out of Venezuela, redirecting flow of oil to China as much as he can and even getting Russian Navy to come into US backyard to show to the world that US cannot do a damn thing about it.
Now imagine how confused Obama is this whole situation! I am sure that ideologically he is closer to Chavez than any US president before him but his handlers tell him that Chavez, even though he is leftist is a no good leftist. Now Obama is making confusing statements on Honduras situation while CIA operatives down there working double time trying to depose another leftist dictator wanna-be.
It happened before. Remember “bay of Pigs?” CIA organized invasion of Cuba with an assumption that President will back it up and at the last moment Kennedy did not. Will Honduras become Obama’s “Bay of pigs?” We will find out in few days.
